Quality garages made from ethically-sourced timber

Quality garages made from ethically-sourced timber

Our skilled craftsmen only use ethically sourced timber from Northern Sweden. For every tree that is harvested, two more are planted, ensuring the forests are never depleted. So you know that your timber garage is not just great value but also built with the environment in mind.

We are proud to have achieved certification under the Forest Stewardship Council ® Chain of Custody Scheme (FSC® Licence Code FSC-C013961) which means that all timber we buy from Stenvalls, our principle Swedish supplier, and every garage built can be traced back to certified, sustainable forests. Look for our FSC® - certified products.

We are also one of the very few timber manufacturers covering Bedfordshire that is clear and transparent with our pricing. On this website, you can find a cost for your garden building or view our detailed price list here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our timber garages and carriage houses (cart lodges) are designed to complement Bedfordshire's diverse architectural styles, from period properties in historic Bedford and Ampthill to contemporary homes in modern developments around Milton Keynes and Luton. Since 1909, we've been crafting buildings that blend seamlessly with local surroundings, whether you're in the Chilterns AONB, the Greensand Ridge, or Bedfordshire's market towns.

We have delivered and built a vast number of timber garages over the years in Bedford, Luton, Dunstable, Leighton Buzzard, Biggleswade, Sandy, Flitwick, Ampthill, Houghton Regis, Shefford, Potton, Stotfold, Arlesey, Cranfield, Woburn, Silsoe, Toddington, Barton-le-Clay, Aspley Guise, Sharnbrook, Woburn Sands, Henlow, Clophill, Bromham, Caddington, Oakley, Marston Moretaine, Maulden, Harrold, Great Barford, Wootton, Turvey, Riseley, Eaton Bray, Blunham, Westoning, Husborne Crawley, Harlington, Renhold, Elstow, Wilstead, Lidlington, Eversholt, and Shortstown.

We understand Bedfordshire's varied building heritage:

Timber Garages:

  • Modern designs for new developments
  • Contemporary styling for urban areas
  • Practical solutions for commuter homes
  • Clean lines to complement modern properties

Carriage Houses:

  • Traditional cart lodge styling for rural properties
  • Heritage features for conservation areas
  • Authentic details for period homes
  • Designs that complement Bedfordshire vernacular architecture

This will usually depend on the size, height and location of the proposed new building.

If you are positioning the building close to a boundary or in front of the building line of your home when viewed from the road, then planning consent is usually required.

If the building is to be behind the house, more than 2.0m from a boundary and provided the ridge height is less than 4.0m, then you may not need permission, assuming it is for non business use. Most garden sheds and chalets therefore do not need local authority permission.

However, if you live in a listed property or within a conservation area then planning permission is nearly always required.

The Government Planning Portal www.planningportal.gov.uk contains a wealth of additional information and includes an interactive guide covering most circumstances.
